Q.  Tell us a bit about yourself:

I am research director for the infrastructure and cloud computing channel at GigaOm Pro. This is the research arm of GigaOM.

 Q. Tell us a little bit about your firm and their interest in virtualization and/or the cloud.

The GigaOM Pro channel called Infrastructure covers all things enterprise IT, including virtualization and cloud.

 Q. What’s hot in virtualization and/or the cloud this year?

Multi-hypervisor support and pricing issues are a big deal in the virtualization market and cloud means so many things, but from my perspective, AWS’s moves this year will be interesting as the IaaS market gets more competitive.

Q. How many events do you attend each year?

Approx 5-8

Q. Which one are you most looking forward to?

 Q. What types of stories or companies are likely to attract your attention this year?

AWS news; cloud startups doing disruptive things

 Q. How many briefings do you do per week?

Too many – 10-20

 Q. What’s the best way to pitch a company/idea to you? Email? Phone? Twitter? By mail?

 Q. Who is worth listening to (about virtualization and /or the cloud)?

Steve Herrod, CTO, VMware; Werner Vogels, AWS

 Q. What’s your favourite blog?

Don’t really have one, maybe, Seth Godin’s blog

 Q. What is your favourite piece of technology?

My Macbook Air

 Q. What do you think is the most important development in virtualization to date?

 Q. What is the best piece of advice for companies to brief you?

Send email, don’t phone and I will follow up if I have questions and want a briefing

 Q. What was the best press trip you’ve ever been on? Worst? Why?

Trip to Sardinia with a company called NetEvents during the tech boom. It was amazing. Such a beautiful place and I don’t remember doing any work. Worst press trip, anything in Vegas.

 Q. What’s your favourite restaurant?

Cyrus in Healdsburg

 Q. Are you a social media lover? Which ones are you on? FB? LinkedIn? Twitter?

No not really, but I use LinkedIn and Twitter for work and FB for personal life.
